And the 2011 SMART Book Award goes to…
The ballots are in, and the 2011 SMART Book Award goes to Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner!
Taking one-third of the votes, this playful tale about snowmen and their nighttime adventures captured the hearts and imaginations of SMART children across the state.
Each year, SMART volunteers and staff select the top five Book Awards nominees based on a variety of factors, including quality of story and illustrations, appeal to young readers and appropriateness for building literacy skills. Over the past couple of months, SMART children have been reading the nominated books and casting votes for their favorite stories.
We received a total of 5,633 votes from children in nearly 220 SMART sites throughout Oregon. Additional placements of SMART Book Awards nominees were as follows:
Second place: Grumpy Bird by Jeremy Tankard
Third place: Dooby Dooby Moo by Doreen Cronin and Betsey Lewin
Fourth place: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
Fifth place: Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
Congratulations to Snowmen at Night for taking the honor of 2011 SMART Book Award winner!
